UK 400 club in free fall!!

I note with interest the recent antics of the uk 400 club president Mr LGR Evans. Mr Evans has always been noted for his outspoken views in his role as "keeper of the lists". From recent posts on the internet it appears that Mr Evans is now claiming harrasment from various sections of the birding community?

Mr Evans claims to have files on all active birders in the UK. He also claims to have accurate records of the life totals of the top twichers which refers to as the list of lists.

LGR Evans does appear to be unaware of UK and European law which relates to the storage of information regarding individuals. As a subscription organisation UK 400 members provide their lists for verification by el president (self appointed) Mr Evans.

It appears that the list of lists contains information on birders who are not uk 400 members. Some birders have only just found out Mr Evans has a record on them. Birders who are deceased according to the UK400 club continue to see new birds!!! A large number of UK 400 club totals are just plain wrong. Mr Evans makes money out of the UK 400 club and its activities.

More concerning is that LGR Evans claims to hold personal information on individuals outside of birding. Some of these relate to emails which he claims have been sent to him. These emails are stored on a data base.

I understand Mr Evans is ignoring the repeated requests of those who are unhappy about his storage of information without their permission. A group of birders are planning to refer this to the data protection commissioner. Mr Evans claims to be exempt from the Data Protection Act although he now says that he has lost his exemption documents - if they ever existed.

Mr LGR Evans will no doubt be visited by the Data Protection people in the near future. Bonxiebeat will watch this story develop and keep you posted.
